Dietary Instructions:

Two days prior to flexible sigmoidoscopy, stop eating fresh and frozen fruits and vegetables, whole grain bread and cereals, Metamucil, Citrucel, Perdiem or Hydrocil.

Colyte Instructions:

Follow the package directions for mixing and CHILL. Do not add sugar.
Begin drinking Colyte at __________AM/PM on ___________________. Drink an 8 oz glass every 10-15 minutes. Bowel movements should occur about one hour after the first glass of Colyte. Drink the whole gallon of colyte. To clear the palate of the Colyte taste, you may take a swallow of apple or cranberry juice. Feelings of bloating and/or nausea are common after the first few glasses of Colyte due to the large volume of fluid ingested. This is temporary and will disappear once bowel movements begin. It may help to drink the Colyte every 15 minutes. Do not eat any solid food until after your exam. Clear liquids are permitted: water, tea, apple and cranberry juice, broth, black coffee, 7 UP, ginger ale, and Jell-O (only lemon or lime flavors).
