A variety of other iron overload diseases are present. These are usually associated with chronic anemias. These are:

Thalassemia
Sideroblastic anemia
Abnormal red cell production (dyseryphropoiesis)
Iron overload secondary to IV therapy
Chronic liver disease secondary to alcohol
Porphyria cutanea tarda

Some iron overload disease can be associated with excessive ingestion of iron. This has been present in African studies. These individuals have been shown to drink large amounts of a low alcohol beer. These have been brewed in iron drums which results in an ingestion of increased amounts of iron on a daily basis.
