Alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency is the most common in board error of chronic liver disease. It usually causes a chronic cholestatic picture. Cirrhosis is the ultimate outcome. Patients are usually identified early on in life. These patients constitute a high percentage of liver transplants. Liver transplantation will reverse the alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency in these patients.
